Quote of the day

People say we're running out of energy. That's only true if we stick with these old 19th century technologies. We are awash in energy from sunlight.

Higgs boson scientists win Nobel prize in physics

Two scientists have won the Nobel prize in physics for their work on the theory of the Higgs boson.

Peter Higgs, from the UK, and Francois Englert from Belgium, share the prize.

In the 1960s, they were among several physicists who proposed a mechanism to explain why the most basic building blocks of the Universe have mass.

The mechanism predicts a particle - the Higgs boson - which was finally discovered in 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at Cern, in Switzerland.

"This year's prize is about something small that makes all the difference," said Staffan Normark, permanent secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

They think they have found it. I did a little research and found out that the collider used cost 10 billion dollars. U.S. has donated at least 500 million. It confirms a theory and that it is the biggest science deal to date in history. They can not tell us how it will help mankind but it is a good thing. We have to let them do what they want with are tax money and have faith that they know whats best. Reply

I guess it is like finding a electron but smaller. The scientist are saying it will take 100 yrs. to study and understand it. From what I understand they think they have found it and are not sure. Only once. Keep on looking. Good for you making history. Reply
