Quote of the day

People say we're running out of energy. That's only true if we stick with these old 19th century technologies. We are awash in energy from sunlight.

LiftPort will make the Moon economically accessible for exploration, settlement, and extraction of natural resources by constructing and operating a Lunar Space Elevator Infrastructure. The LSEI will transport cargo and people to and from the Earth-Moon Lagrange 1, through a soft-landing, down to the surface of the Moon.

Located at the EML1, LiftPort Group will build and operate the PicoGravity Laboratory, a crewed research station with energy, fuel resupply and docking facilities for larger missions deep into the solar system. LiftPort opens up the Moon and the rest of the solar system to humanity.

LiftPort’s proposed research will develop practical, near-term solutions for construction and expansion of a Lunar Elevator. The study will include characterization of materials; analysis of required rocketry and robotics; and evaluation of landing sites and methods of anchoring to the Lunar surface. Additionally, Ribbon spooling, infrastructure deployment, and micrometeorite mitigation techniques will be explored.

There is so much talk about settlements on the moon and mars and about the need to explore them further - this is an interesting proposal and should make important steps in this direction Reply

This is very ambitious project and need to cover a lot research including characterization of materials, analysis of required rocketry and robotics and evaluation of landing sites and methods of anchoring to the Lunar surface. Hopefully, good progress will be made.

Some people are questioning this concept. It seems that it is not clear what the benefit of a lunar space elevator is. Questions include "Is space elevators cheap access to orbit? Isn't it really easy to achieve lunar orbit due to the really low gravity? Would a lunar space elevator be practical at all or is it just a proof of concept?"
