Sleep mask promises lucid dreams

Lucid dreaming is a pleasure many don’t get to experience outside from the vicarious thrills of watching Inception. For the uninitiated, lucid dreaming refers to being conscious within a dream. Often times, people who lucid dream will do things that are impossible in the real world, such as flying.

Generally, one has to work to achieve a lucid dream. One of the classic ways to do this is to check your watch throughout the day. Then, in your dream, you might do the same thing. Only, the numbers on your watch might appear different during a dream, signaling you to the fact that you are dreaming.

Of course, that doesn’t always work. Cue the Remee. It’s a sleep mask made by a Brooklyn-based company called Bitbanger Labs, and it blinks red lights into your eyelids during the REM portion of your sleep cycle, which is the portion you dream during. These lights will bleed into your dreams. After a while, you should begin to recognize these signs and finally become aware that you’re dreaming.

Then, to borrow a phrase, the sky’s the limit. Except, of course, it isn’t because you can do literally anything you want inside a dream.

The company put the sleep mask on Kickstarter, seeking $35,000. It gained $572,000.The mask costs $95.It’s not the first time this has been attempted, but it sure is the cheapest.
